The Royal Liverbuilding
The Royal Liverbuilding by Ed Farrell.
This dry brush watercolour demonstrates the power and beauty of Liverpool’s Royal Liver Building illuminated at night. The turrets of Tower Buildings are lit up in front and the lights of the Wirral are reflected in the Mersey as background. Designed by Walter Aubrey Thomas and built by 1911, Pevsner describes it as ‘perhaps the most extraordinary office block of its time in the Country’. Its unique construct is topped by the two copper liver birds – surely one of the most recognisable landmarks in the world.
